Back in September, I attended a meeting of the CB3 SLA Committee, where the application for a liquor license by Jin was rejected on the grounds that there are too many liquor-selling establishments around there. (Casani's is on the corner of Ludlow and Broome, a few doors down.) As many of you know, I think this is ridiculous. If we are to have nice restaurants, they must be allowed to sell liquor -- at least beer and wine.
So, I recently had a chance to eat at Jin. First of all, it impresses as a serenely decorated place. They play music, but quietly. There is a bar with a TV in the back. Some folks were watching a football game with the sound off. Alas, they were drinking soft drinks.
I thought the food was quite good. I tasted several types of sushi and the salmon teriyaki. The service was a little ragged -- not unusual for a new restaurant.
Happy news: The State Liquor Authority ignored silly CB3 and granted Jin a liquor license. Saki will appear toward the end of this year or early next.

This is so funny - Jin is the restaurant we're reviewing in the Dec. GSN. And the dominant adjective is SERENE. I guess the public has spoken!

I find myself in a catch 22 sometimes with new places esp. sushi. I want them here, but I find myself questioning if the sushi will be turned over quick enough to be fresh. Any thoughts.

We have eaten there twice, and both times we thought the sushi was extremely fresh...the people are so nice and it is in the neighborhood...which is the best part! Please try and frequent this place...(and no..I am not affiliated with them in any way1

My wife and I have been ordering in from Jin recently and we think it is fresh and very good. We used to use Yoshi on Houston but it started tasting institutional. Jin is a good addition to the limited delivery les. Cant wait for 2 boots to open.
